I noticed the heavy insulation on the outside of my passenger's side battery cable is dry and cracked. Looks like it won't be long before I need new battery cables.
Can anyone tell me how much new cables are for both the + and - driver's side and passenger's side battery connections?
I assume these are actually wire harness assemblies... didn't see where the other ends of each cable terminate.

I would use some very heavy welding cables from any welding supply shop. thats what I used when i re-located my batts to the passenger side...............Gibson

I made mine for under $30 using bulk cable and connectors from NAPA. The biggest pain was crimping that size cable.

Removed soup bowl and drilled holes in air intake.
can you give more info on how to make your own. I know the stealership wants like $130 for them, i replaced the alt, both batts, and VR in the last year because during the winters i have been having low cranking times(dies in under a minute) but all straightend out now, but cables are grayish and signs of overchargin/life and might aswell replace them. All GPs have been changed, but mainly the driver battery was dead and robbed power from pass batt. Cables are prolly OE, and need the truck for winter, just want the reassurance.
TIA

I had mine made at a battery shop. It was a very high quality cable, and it was welding wire also. Cost me about $80. They have nicer crimps and heat shrink fittings.

Wow... sounds nice. I'll probably end up paying Ford... although if I can eke out another year I'll be able to have a good battery shop I know of build the set. Sounds like your cables are nice. Pics?
Hmmm... :-)
Thank you,
Mike

Find a truck shop in your area. They should have the parts to make up cables and crimp them. They also have heat shrink boots to go over the splices. Should be in that 30 to 50 dollar area. As good as or better than Ford.
Thanks, Greg

Find an Interstate Battery distributor in your area, as Ford wanted $165-$240 i my area for the positive cable, Interstate was $51, If I had thought to go to Interstate the previous winter intead of Ford, I wouldn't haved paid $85 each for the 2 ground cables, both of mine goto the block

Heres the deal with battery cables. The voltage flows on the outside of EACH wire in the bundle. Very little if any flows thru the solid center of the wire in the cable. So, now you see why its important to keep the ends clean. The more wires in the cable (like welding cable) the better ability it has to carry voltags and amps. Gold carries the best current flow and amps, then copper and finally aluminium. In my line of work we push 500,000 volts thru aluminium cable with a steel core. Its the cheapest way to send power from one side of the country to the other. I'm really happy with the cables and ends I bought from Wrangler NW Power Products in Portland Oregon.
