'94 IDI Turbo. My battery light has been flickering on and off, and lately it has been staying on. The volt meter reads where it always has, and I've tried two different alternators (previous experience). Are there any common failure points to check, or do I start tracing wires? So far the truck seems to be working fine, but I don't like dummy lights shining in my face.
Do a physical check at the battery, use a voltmeter engine running see if you get 14+ volts. Check the two grey fusible links J and K and all alternator connectors for good conductivity, there have been some connectors that will burn up and not allow power to pass.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. It's been starting good, and no lights are dimming, so I imagine it's charging, but something's turning the light on. I'll check that stuff, then see what happens.
My 89 truck did the same thing. I replaced everything and it stopped for a short time but started again. One night it was doing this and I saw a spark flickering at the alternator leaks. I moved them around in the dark and found the wire that lites up when the alt. stops charging was broken between the wire lug at the plastic and the copper wire. How in the heck it broke there I'll never know. I replaced the wire lug and all has been well ever since. This problem was driving me nuts and had it not been for the darkness I dought it would have been found for some time. I hope you find the same problem I had....I mean that in a nice way.... Mine started coming on then it would turn off then it stayed on dimmly, I replaced alternator and still got 12.69 on the multimeter, I got a new voltage ragulator (the one on the fender) and I have not had a problem since, multimeter reads 14.?? I don't see how it could have flickered, working and not working, whenever the light stayed on, the batteries went dead and they were too low to start my truck. Lifetime warranty on new alternator and the regulator though so never have to pay for that crap again. The regulator is only like $7 at autozone though.
Try tightening all the connections. I had a car that did exactly that where the charge light was on all the time but very dim and can only be seen at night and the problem was the nut on the terminal for the +12V connection at the starter motor was loose. Took me a while to find it.
