I'm getting ready to replace all of my cables and both batteries, and I'm wondering where to get the best "bang for the buck" when it comes to the batteries. Right now, it has two tired Bosch 850 CCA in it. Also, what is the best way to guard against corrosion? Thanks.
Atta Boy, Your my kinda of guy!
You will get the most for your hard earned dollar at Sams Club,
under $50 will buy a 850CCA Excide, I believe it is over 1000CA.
This battery has proven itself in Minnesota winters, I replace them every 3 years, in the fall, not because they need to be replaced, but I don't want any "issues" when it is below 0
Get the "Group 65", it is made for the Ford battery box, perfect fit.
As far as the corrision,
Don't over fill, (I never need to add).

Buying new batteries and cables is one of the best ways to guard against corrosion. Keeping the battery terminals and cable ends clean is the best way to avoid corrosion. Should you somehow get corrosion, baking soda sprinkled on the terminals with some warm water will disolve any corrosion. Tim

I use Exide Orbital Spiral Wound AGMs. Absoultly NO corrosion and they function as a deep cycle but with only half(500)the cycles of a real(1000)deep cycle. They are kinda spendy but they really spin the engine. Baja
i'm running little felt washers between that sit under the terminal end on the cable. seems to help a little with corrosion. they should be available at any hardware store.

FWIW...
Several months ago, I had all 42(?) 12V batteries in a 40KVA UPS replaced at the office. I asked the installers what they were slathering on the terminals during re-assembly and they both said "No-Lox grease" (NOT silicon... very dino looking/smelling)????? I asked and they said it had some sort chemical properties that inhibited corrosion (there was absolutely ZERO corrosion on the old batteries and to date, none on the new batteries).
I was basically thinking it would be nice to have something like that and they gave me the rest (75-80% full) of the can. I've been using it on ALL electrical connections and have NO corrosion on anything it's been applied to so far...
The best product I've found is copper gasket sealer. It is conductive and it doesn't harden for a long, long time. Coat your battery terminals and cable ends once a year. Works for me.
not sure what gets rid of corrosion but anti-sieze keeps it from corroding over. the only bad thing is your ahnds will get dirty each time you tuoch the termanals and cable ends. its worked for over a year now......Gibson

i just use some grease on the ends, it is redish brown, not sure what it is, whatever was in an old grease gun laying around, kind of like a multipurpose bearing grease. I clean terminals and apply new grease everytime i disconnect the batts to service electric parts, no corrossion so far, i just smear it on, not using very much. Also i just recently repainted my battery trays, pressure washed them, then sanded, then hit it with a rust kill primer, then finished with some some rust oleum rust tuff paint. Everything is still holding up just fine.
