Baumann trans controls

Yestarday Okie Gringo stopped by. We took a ride in his truck,he wanted to show me how it shifts with the Baumann computor. All I can say is !!!!INCREDABLE!!!!I have never seeen an E40D shift that well.If I was still using my truck-with out a doubt I would put one in mine. The cost seems high, but after seeing how it shifts I can only say it would be well worth the money considering the longivety it potentally can give a transmission. In my case where I pulled heavy trailers for so many miles I see how it would minimize so much slippage and allow for better utilization of the engine torque the cost would not be a consideration.I am cofident it would extend transmission life to the extent it would far overcome the purchase price. Once more I have never seen an E40D shift so sweet NEVER!!
As I rode in it I thought that with well over 200,000 on my jasper transmissionpulling heavy loads (Look in my photos)It would make the E40d the best r transmission I ever towed with. I honestly feel that prpoerly rebuilt-maintained and driven it is far superior to the C6. My opinion only Mr Bill

Re: Baumann trans controls

I'd be interested to know how well it works with the BTS transmissions. I have the Banks Transcommand on my truck, and Brian at BTS said it wasn't necessary to use it with his rebuild.

Of course, I've been using it anyway. It definitely launches the truck when it shifts. The truck seems to perform better. This toy from Baumann sounds like it'd be a nice addition... with removal of the Transcommand of course...

Re: Baumann trans controls

Thanks for the "back up" Bill. The TCS unit would be great with a "built E4OD" and would probably make it last longer than the engine. And for anyone that is having "sensor problems" or that has just had it rebuilt but still can't get it to shift right, the Baumann TCS is just what the doctor ordered. Again, the E4OD is not a "piece of crap", BUT the OEM computer IS a "piece of crap". OkieGringo

Re: Baumann trans controls

Maybe it is the computer as you all have said...garbage in...garbage out. It stands to reason a poor trans computer would cause the kind of junk that we hear about on the E40D. Is this entry level electronics for those who might wnat to follow in your footsteps?

Re: Baumann trans controls

J.D., If by "entry level electronics", you mean "how hard is it to install and program", it was pretty simple to install. You do need a laptop to make programming the TCS easy. Baumann sells some sort of "adapter" to let you use a desktop to input the program. But even a very old laptop will work and could probably be picked up cheap. I will be glad to send you the "program variables" that I'm using for my trans and you could go from there. And I'll explain/help over the phone if you need it. I've even offered Baumann to be a reference to anyone who needs help applying their program to a diesel. A different FIPL/TPS to MPH/load chart is used for diesel than is used for a gas engine. And remember, you can have two different "profiles", one for "around town/economy" and another for "towing/power" or "racing" and change the "profile" with the flip of a switch, just like the new auto trans vehicles. Oh, and don't forget about being able to use the Cruise Control buttons on steering wheel to "Shift Manually" . OkieGringo

Re: Baumann trans controls

Wow you are cool! Good thinking...but I am running a C6 and if I ever swap it will be to a manual...I just know you're pretty handy and I wanted you to clarify for any guys who might be thinking of this mod. But thanks so much for the offer. What you are saying makes a lot of since. Bad programming on teh E40D is probably liek teh ECM on a gasser or older diesel getting messed up or like screwing around with teh vaccum on teh C6. Makes all the sense in the world.
