Better Windshield Wipers

Does anyone know if it is possible to change to the type of wiper arms that have the hose IN the arm itself? I'd love to lose the center-cowl squirter and get a better arm assembly on my windshield.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: Better Windshield Wipers

What is it about the current wiper arms that you do not like? I find that traveling over 75 MPH, that the arms kind of levitate and do not wipe the windshield. Aside from that, I think they work fine, even the cowl mounted squirters. Tim

Re: Better Windshield Wipers

Mine seem bent... wipers make noise despite new blades and a clean windshield... plus Rain-X.

Re: Better Windshield Wipers

Aren't you not supposed to use rain-x in conjunction with wipers?

Best wipers i have ever seen come from costco. They have a teflon blade on them and they last for about 6 months, as compared with about 1 week for normal wipers for me.

True... Anyway... still trying to find arms that have the squirter built-in... that'll fit the posts on the wiper motors on our trucks...

May have to dissect my wife's '01 Silverado tomorrow... :-)

I looked at those wipers i got, they are made by trico. If all else fails, give those a try.

Re: Better Windshield Wipers

I'll check 'em out... but the squirter in the wiper arm itself REALLY makes a HUGE difference...

Re: Better Windshield Wipers

One thing to check and it may require some retrofiting. The 92 thru 97 series put two squirters in the front cowl piece. I have an extra one here and that may bolt on the 87 thru 91 or may have to make new holes to install it in the 87 thru 91's.

Re: Better Windshield Wipers

Hmmm... maybe I need to get ahold of a set of those arms. Wonder what differences there are in the ductwork/routing... and wiper arm length.

Re: Better Windshield Wipers

Not that bad, The fluid hookup on the wiper arm are 1/8" and you just need to buy a little plastic reducer and your good to go. The wiper blades are the same for the truck and the van.

Re: Better Windshield Wipers

The thing that bugs me about the 93', is that you can't squirt and then wipe. You wipe then squirt, or at best get both at once. Ford never should have taken away the ability to squirt only. Nothing like grinding dry crap into your glass before getting lubrication.

Re: Better Windshield Wipers

Haven't used wipers for years (save weight and throw them away)! Rain-X works, you just have to buff in a new coat every 3 months.

Re: Better Windshield Wipers

Thank you... will check 'em out.

Those wipers would be neat if they worked with the trucks. May need some sort of adaptation given the possibility of different windshield size...
