If your truck performs to your liking, why would you want to see your fuel bill rolling out the tailpipe.... black smoke is wasted fuel in my book.

I start to worry about high EGTs if I see a bunch of black. I suspect you have more black smoke than you know you need to be in another car and watch to really appreciate the show. Mine rolls a little blueish gray when EGTs are cool and a little black when they are warm, and clouds when I have my foot to the floor climbing a hill. Your timing may be a bit retarded or either its perfecta nd your engine's just running pretty efficiently.

i have my IP turned 3/4 of a turn and it rolls out the smoke when ever i tap the go-pedal. but doesnt let any out when holdin a steady speed. EGT's are normal. havent broke 1100* yet even when yankin a 5.5K 36' trailer loaded with 20K of cattle. one reason you might want to consider about no smoke is good injectors. bad let the fuel out a lower pressure than good ones. hopped injectors are just injectors that let fuel out at low pressure. or you mgiht be governed too low or.... so on......Gibson

actually, turning up the fuel will not change the Fuel mileage one little bit.....your new driving style will.Think of it as a graph.A line running at a 45degree angle(ok,might actually be curved but bear with me).now put a smaller box around the lower end.The line outside of the fuel curve doesn't get touched since the fuel is turned down. Now if you turn it up to max you shrink that graph down so it fits into the box.You get the same fuel curve just with less pedal movement.Only thing that changes is Fuel quantity to inches of pedal movement.

Wasting fuel is a kick, my favorite is to get some punk looking banger behind me at a stop light, and fill his lungs, maybe he wont live as long, hence less gang problems. I'm helping the community.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHQAHAHAHAHAH. BUt seriously that graph deal just gave me a ehadache trying to figure it out it was as clear as black coffee to me. someone explain it to me because to me rolling out black smoke is like rolling out $$ cuz its all unburnt fuel.

Point being, is you can have your IP turned all the way up, but if you never use the added fuel, you won't "waste" any. If you keep your foot out of the pedal, your truck will run exactly the same.. But if you NEED the extra fuel, it is there if do.. Scotty
