Block heater

I have an 89 F250. I live in Fairbanks AK and the beast stays outside. Needless to say, preheat is an issue. A north slope oil company was the original owner and they put a transmission oil heater, crankcase oil heater and battery charger on it when it was new. Why not a coolant type block heater? Is there a tap on the bottom of the block for a block heater? Is there any good reason why I can not put a block heater on it?

Thanks to all who responded to my prior post re extra wire on the injection pump.

Zac

Re: Block heater

the block heater goes in a freeze plug above the started they are not bad to put in unhook the batteries and take the starter and drain the coolant

Re: Block heater

You should check and see if there is already a block heater. The company may have just cut or removed the cord. Replacement cords are available at NAPA.

Re: Block heater

If I were you I'd put a block heater in both sides of the block to heat the engine more quickly/evenly in that climate. Get a couple of battery blanket heaters also. OG

Re: Block heater

The only issue with having 2 engine block heaters is that it exceed load capacity of a single 15 amp circuit breaker, or about 1440 watts.
Assuming one BH draws about 1000 watts.

I haven't seen a 15 amp circuit since I left Baja. Do you live in trailer BB? XXX&OOOs BB? I think I prefer the gun . OkieGringo

Re: Block heater

Thanks to all for the reply. I think I will look for a cut cord, otherwise probably put in one block heater for now.

Re: Block heater

Just put an in line heater in my 93 7.3 idi. there is a drain plug on the block to tie into. mine took some creative routing to get from the drain plug to the heater without touching the exhaust manifold, but it was doable. just do it inside- antifreeze is cold at 25 below.
