Just repeating what he said. I guess he wanted to err on the side of caution so that they wouldn't have to replace any 'burned out ones'.

The heater cord has a strange shape where it connects to the heater. Ford Stealership wanted $55.00 just for the cord!!! I found exact heater and cord at NAPA for $35.00 part # 605-3137. I have the element right here and the inside butterfly nut WILL NOT fall off inside, the screw has been "peened". Okiegringo
OkieGringo- That's what I was talking about. It's the same mushroomed end as rubber freeze plugs have. You've got to really try to get the halves apart- you'll strip out the screw head first, unless you ground off the end, but that's irrelevant when it's installed in the block...

The shape of my buddies 7.3L IDI heater cord was bean/kidney shaped with the three holes. Plugged right in.
I replaced another trucks cord (Cummins NTC 290) and it was the more common out there. Round plug w/ 3 holes held on by a retaining lock (screwed on type). That cord cost me $18.00 for 6 feet (granted, I get a nice discount at the local parts place....) Ebay had cords for the $18-25 range.
