yesterday i was driving my truck and i started to smell something burning. after a few miles i noticed IT WAS ME and i stop the truck. smocke coming out of the front passenger side wheel. i thougth it was the brakes at first but i did them a few month's ago, so i cheked closer and it seems o be inside the hub or the bearings cause when i toke off the cup that cover's the nut inside some grease came out but partially melted.
i never repack the bearings on this truck before could it be a seal got broken?
i will check it this sunday. do i need to replace all the bearing's now or just repakt?
wath about the ones in the back?
thank you, exekiel

If it were my truck, I would change all of the front bearings. You can start with all new breaings and a good pack job. Get all new seals also. I have had a front bearing seeze on my older truck and it was quite a ride with the right wheel NOT turning at 65 mph. Not good!!

Could be a bearing or the calipers causing the heat... I would get a full set of bearings inner/outer and a new seal if that is found to be the problem.

I had exactly the same problem. Turned out it was the caliper. the piston seals were bad and caused the pistons to stay out keeping preasure on the brake. Had to replace the caliper($45-w/ a $45core at car quest)and the rotor. like you i figured it was the brakes and replaced the pads hoping to keep it as cheap as possible. Talked to a mech. he said the calipers go all the time with trucks this old. As a note might as well replace the brake line while youre there.

E.......don't even attempt the seal replacement just get rebuilts. It takes knowledge and tools to do the caliper seals and nothing say's it will work after even if done right..

I have rebuilt a lot of calipers and wheel cyls and I would not do this in ones garage if you have a shop with shop air and a good parts washer then maybe but there are a few tricks to it and as was mentioned they don't always work afterwards best to go with remans with a warranty
