brake booster

Never had this happen before was driving home this evening and came up on a stop sign when I totched the brake peddle it went down on its own locking the brakes then relesed had to drive home with one foot under the peddle when I came to stops to keep the thing from going to the floor and stoping me. The quick check at home showed no loose hoses or broken exposed parts what do you think booster or vac pump gone bad 93 IDI F250 4x4

Re: brake booster

I had this happen to me one time on a 90 model ranger I owned as a kid. It was the booster- although it wasn't as bad as you described, it was constantly applying pressure to the brakes (killing my power and fuel economy)

Re: brake booster

No one has totched the brakes in 2 years other than to inspect. I don't have a tester was just trying to get a heads up on possible problems before I head down to he brake shop with it.

Re: brake booster

Well went and got the tester but when I pulled into the drive I noticed spots of fluid under the rear of the truck looks to be from a bad wheel cylinder so have to fix that first dont know if thats the problem but my dog sure thinks its funny seeing me chase my tail
