Brake light, Anti lock rear lights.

I have noticed in more trucks than just mine that these pesky lights tend to stay on for no apparent reason (to me anyway).

My red Brake light and yellow Rear Anti-lock lights are both on while my truck is running. Like I said, I have been in and seen other IDIs, in videos with these same lights on. Is these some kind of issue with the brake light malfunctioning regularly in Model IDI Fords?

If anyone has the proper solution to these lights, please let me know.

Also, I don't have my owners manual too by the way, does anyone have an online version for 1989 F250 7.3 XLT Lariat? I would appreciate it, cannot find one online.

Thanks guys.

What kinds of things go wrong, most of the time, with the abs on this truck?

Mine too. the brake light will come on if there isn't enough vacum in the system and the ABS light is supposed to come on when you turn the key to "on" and then it will go out. It you have both lights on while your driving down the road then you got problems. CDNSARGUY has in his photo gallery, the test for the vacum pump. There is a thread on here about the ABS light and how to get those codes. the abs light could be no more than the speed sensor in the rear diff. but I would get the code(s) to be sure.

I was worried that BOTH were on while driving, I had planned to check the fluid levels just to make sure that's not all it was. But the ABS light at the same time I had a feeling it was something more than that. I have never messed with any vacum lines or anything with them. I will have to check out that thread and the ABS code thread... I'll need that too. If anyone has those links easily available lemme know I would appreciate it. Gonna check out those vacum pump test pictures in CDNSARGUY 's photo album.
Thanks man, big help.

I just went through CDNSARGUY's 74 photos and couldn't find those pictures, are you sure he still has them?

How much is it for a new vacuum pump and how hard is it to install?

Vacum pumps run about $125.00 and they are very simple to install. You may need to have the pulley pressed off the old one and pressed on the new one like they do on P/S pumps. Harbor Freight has the set to do this for about $10.00 You can't use a gear puller.

That is good news! And, if I do end up buying a new pump then I will definitely pick up that kit, there is a Harbor Freight Tools not far from here. Thanks for the advice. And, you should check out my new thread about mods/upgrades. Thanks again
