On my 89 E250 van the warning brake light comes on when the car is idling. I had to rev it up to 2000 rpm for the light to turn off. My first thought was vacuum pump, but I still have brakes, even when idling, so I have been thinking the switch that warns about low vacuum? The same thing happend last vinter as soon as the cold sat in and I can't figure out why? Last time it went away after awhile, atleast before I got to look in to the problem.... I have to have my car on the yearly EU check and this light can for that reason not be there, so I can fix the problem or take out the bulb he he...
Any ideas what this can be? My vacuum pump is about two years old, bought it brand new....

Do the vacuum test on my gallery...... also check the park brake is releasing and the light mechanism is working correctly.

I fixed the park brake for over a year ago coz the wires was stuck on both sides. And the switch breaks electrically, as it should. But I shall run the vacuum test, as you said cdnsarguy...
Thx.
Going to add a vacuum meter to my tool chest too coz of this... And I'm allready loaded with tool as it is, where shall this end?

If revving it up makes the light go out then it's most likely vacuum getting low. My guess is that you have a leak in the system or a hole starting in the pump diaphram.
I've never had a low vacuum light that worked so I don't know where they come on at.

Install cheap vac. gauge under your dash to see what is really happenning now and forever. Speed shops sell them also known as a fuel economy gauge. I have one and like I say, driving down the highway it's nice to know what is going on under the hood. .
