Compressors do wear out eventually, and die a quick and painful death if someone has recharged the system with R134a without first properly converting it from R12 (includes full evacuation of R12, replacement of the drier unit, adding separate oil for the compressor, and such).

Before you get too excited, most of the time all that's needed is a pulley bearing and the compressor is OK. When the A/C and defroster is off the compressor clutch is not locked up, so that bearing is turning whenever the engine is running. Also, the magnetic engagement clutch brushes can sometimes rub when the clutch is not engaged and they make a slight noise which is normal.

Well I got the compressor, took it and had the 134 removed at a shop, but I took off the old one, put on the new one to save some cash, now ready to charge it, I was told 4- 12oz 134s would do it, but do I have to put something with some kind of oil in it??, Thank You For Your Time.

Did you start out with 134a

when your troubles started, was the system charged with R134a or the old R12? If it was the old R12 stuff then you need to flush the old oil out and then use an oil compatible with a retrofited system. Also you will need to repalce the drier/reciever as it will have the old oil in it and will contaminate the new system. If it was R134a then there should be a sticker that shows the retrofit date/type and amount of oil and amount of charge in oz. If not PM me and I will look up in my A/C book and see if I can find the amounts.
