Can someone measure their F450 front springs for me?

I have been trying to decide if F350 springs are going to cut it for me after I install a winch on the front of my truck. I am hoping that a set of F450 springs will fit under my truck without too much work.

Can anyone measure their F450's front leaf springs from center to center of the leaf eyes and from one end to the centering pin bolt.
I will also need to make sure they are the correct width at the mounting points.
Any assistance will be of much help. If the 450 springs cant be used I am going to have to come up with a better plan.

Thanks, eric

Re: Can someone measure their F450 front springs for me?

Needed to do some put off inspecting under there so thought I'd do it now and maybe help you in the process. The leaf springs measure 50¾" from center of bushing to center of bushing. The length from center of front bushing to center of front axle is 23¾". The springs are 2" thick at the axle and 3" wide. This is a 1988 chassis so not sure it would be the same as your '91.

Re: Can someone measure their F450 front springs for me?

That is awesome. Thank you very much!

My front leafs measure 51-7/8" center to center with 23-1/2" from center to the pin in front of the axle. I am sure mine are longer due to being squished flat.
I forgot to ask if they are flat or do they have a little bit of a curve up to the ends like a smile?
If you stretched an immaginary string tight from center to center of the leaf ends (guestimate) how far under there is it to the bottum of the leaf pack? This dimmention will help me determine how much lift these springs are going to give my truck if any.

Thanks again, Eric

Re: Can someone measure their F450 front springs for me?

Better make sure you agree to get the arch measurement either loaded (tuck on the springs) or unloaded (axle hanging) so you get a somewhat accurate calculation.

Re: Can someone measure their F450 front springs for me?

Good point about the weight being on the truck runboy.
I was thinking that the measurements were taken on a loaded vehicle because I measured mine that way but didnt ask how the F450 was measured.
I know the springs will fit my truck with little or no modification. I just need to know how much arch the F450 springs have so I know how much lift I will need on the rear of my truck.

Thanks again,
Eric

Re: Can someone measure their F450 front springs for me?

The previous measurments were taken from my work truck that is sitting empty. The spring depth measurement (2" at the axle) is misleading as it includes the caster shim. Actual is 1½". I have the stripped frame of a '90 sitting out back and took some measurements from it. The only weight on it is a defunct E4OD. The bushing to bushing center length is 49½". The front bushing center to centering pin on the axle is 23¼". Each spring (2 per side) is ¾" thick at center and tapers down to about ¼" at the ends. Neglected to get the rise height at center. If you really need it I'll check tomorrow. Hope this helps.

Re: Can someone measure their F450 front springs for me?

A fellow on another board also measured his springs and posted the height of rise for me. It looks like the springs will boost my truck to give me between 4-1/5 & 5 inch of lift.
Now the only question is..... How do I get the rear lifted the same ammount without stacking blocks. I guess I could take 2 rear leaf packs and add them together to get most of it that way.
I wonder about the F450 rear leafs but I bet they are 2-1/2" wide instead of 3 inches like mine. I guess it would work fine if the mounting points were 3" wide like mine but I dont think I could get that lucky. I could also stack washers between the leafs and the mounts but that might be a little janky .

I just keep thinking that I may end up with (the only??) F450 4x4 diesel

Any ideas?
Thanks again for the measurements, Huge help!
Eric
