Can you recomend a diesel service book?

Looking for a service manual that would cover a 7,3 turbo diesel, that would cover changing injectors and the bleeding process? Thanks

Throw that question out to the power stroke guys. I bought a Haynes on ebay that has been very useful and only $15.

Re: Can you recomend a diesel service book?

You don't really need a manual to change IDI injectors, it's pretty simple.

Blow off any dirt / crud around the injector base with air, loosen all the injector line nuts, R&R the injectors one at a time. (DO NOT) bend the metal lines out of the way). Make sure the copper washers come out with the old injectors.

Replacing the return lines and caps is recommended as they will leak after being disturbed.

To bleed the air you simply leave the injector line nuts loose and crank till clear fluid comes out. Shouldn't take more than 50 seconds of cumulitive cranking.

You may want to do a search for more detailed instructions, but it is a simple unbolt / bolt job.

Advance Auto has the Haynes that covers Ford IDI and Chevy diesel engines (the one mentioned above) for ~$16. It was in-stock on the shelf when I stopped in.

I was looking for one too, and saw that the Haynes book doesn't say one thing about putting SCA's in the coolant. I figured if they didn't know about that, I didn't need their book.

Re: Can you recomend a diesel service book?

If you can find a "Motors" brand manual those are good. I don't know if they even make them anymore, but I have read many of them from the 1930's - 1960's. They tell you the theory and "why" in addition to the basic stuff.

I bet 3/4 of my mechanical knowledge is from 60 year old manuals.
