My weep hole has been dumping coolant like it's 10 beers deep. So, I'll be changing my water pump after a coolant flush tomorrow... Please post any tips or advice below. I've got a new water pump, gasket, thermostat, hoses, belts....and anything I can think of that should be changed out while I have most of the accessories out.
Is there anything I should look out for? Any additional components that I should change out while I have everything torn apart?
The specified/required thermostat does not contain an internal bypass, since the bypass is located in the cylinder block. Whenever the thermostat is replaced, it is mandatory that only Motorcraft E5TZ-8575-C or Navistar 1807974C94 thermostat be installed.
Also be sure to add precharged coolant or else the required amount of SCA's. Distilled water also as tap water contains minerals that make the SCA's not work.

so, is there a coolant that is a simple "pour in"? Otherwise, an additive? I'm sure that I can search for it, but a little extra info would be great. Starting the removal/replacement tomorrow morning. Thanks again!
I use "FLEET CHARGE" as it has SCA's in it. It says that distilled water is not madatory but I do. I get it at tractor supply but if you google it, it is available from some auto parts stores.

Be aware, it should be in the instructions but a couple of the flanges on the water pump are thinner so if things aren't done right the bolts will go in deeper and hit the IP gear and ruin it.
If you want a pre-charged antifreeze you can get it at Napa. It's either Fleetcharge or Fleetguard but I think it's Fleetcharge.
Edit: Wow same minute as Chuckster, I think he's right though it is probable Tractor Supply on your side of the Rockies.

Good point! I forgot that part.

Alright, I'll be careful around the IP. Have not read the instructions yet....only gathered parts and materials. Thanks for the additional point to look for.
I just recently replaced my radiator, while I had it torn apart I also replaced the water pump, thermostat, passenger side valve cover gasket, hoses and belts. I didn't like the cheezy water pump gasket that came with my FoMoCo water pump so I purchased a Felpro gasket from AutoZone and used Permatex Aviation #3 to seal it. Used Fleet Charge from Tractor Supply.

Thanks for all of the pointers, guys. Awesome info in the photo link as well. I've got the new pump in. Tomorrow, I'll re-install the accessories, fill with coolant and fire this thing up!
Latest update. I've buttoned everything up, topped off the coolant and ran the truck for about 30 minutes. It never warmed up. So, the coolant isn't flowing. This is probably because even though I topped off the coolant, since it is trying to pump through the engine, there still isn't quite enough it there to promote flow. I'll let things cool off overnight, then top off, fill the overflow tank and try it again. I really hope that I didn't knock something loose that clogged the radiator or heater core.

hose that comes off of the right side head--loosen it--till coolant comes out--then try the refill again--air lock--
