Clacking noise at idle
Hey guys.A friend of mine has a 87'7.3 IDI in his cube van.At idle,there's a noise coming from the torque converter area.Sounds like a hard clacking noise.The engine was replaced last week with another 7.3 IDI.The previous engine was seized.If you put the tranny in reverse or drive,the noise almost completely disappears.When put back into park position,the noise is back.It sounds terrible.I removed the inspection cover because i thought the converter might be hitting that,but its not.I did'nt install the engine,but something must of gone wrong when the replacement engine was reinstalled.My buddy bought the van as is and knew the engine was seized,and so he did'nt know if the noise was there or not before the engine failed.
The van drives great and shifts okay,except for the noise coming from the converter area.The noise also goes away when in drive and under load,but on deceleration,the noise re-appears.Any ideas or suggestions on this matter are surely appreciated.
