Clutch linkage near breaking

In the last few days I had noticed that my clutch seemed diffrent. Also on a few occasions I could not go into reverse without grinding the gears which drives me bazookas when it grinds. Today I looked under the rig and everything seemed fine. I looked under the dash and found that the linkage are quite worn. The rod to the clutch pedal bolted to the firewall was also showing some movement although slight.

I hope you guys know what I am talking about.

I plan to make the neccessary repairs before the linkage break and leave me unable to release the clutch and cause to have an accident.

So the question is. The parts looks like they woould be easy to do to replace them and does the Hanes manual have good instructions. And what is involved in doing all that and what nots?

I do hope it is a simple job....

Thanks

Planned upgrades are a new and better turbo and larger exhaust pipes than the 21/2s that are already under the rig/ would like a 6 spd tranny but dont know if that is a feasable or smart investment yet.

Re: Clutch linkage near breaking

common failure points and easy to fix go get the crosshaft bushings and the little drop lever thingie and a couple of pushrod bushings and a small firewall support plate <not the humngous one> and everything will be good as new

Re: Clutch linkage near breaking

The aftermarket manuals don't give much info on this, but it's easy to figure out. Hardest part is getting the pedal "cage" out. It takes a little coaxing. Once you figure that out, it's pretty straight forward. Figure on 2-3 hours, depending on number of beers drank.

Re: Clutch linkage near breaking

Yup- what Tom said, took me about 3 beers. I hate to recommend stealerships, but FMC sells a bushing kit for about 15 bucks, has everything you need to take the wobble out of the shaft, but you'll have to fab-up your own support plate for the firewall. No mean task for a seasoned do-it-yourselfer. Good luck.

Can you elaborate on this Keith? What's the purpose of the plate?
I looked under the dash trying to figure it out, but... maybe to stiffen up the area where the clutch master is???

TIA
