Clutch Pedal Push Rod

Hello everyone,
I own a 93 F350 IDI Turbo. I have had it for a year and the clutch push rod has broken twice. The first time was shortly after I bought it and I taught was do to the plastic rod. So I updated the truck with the heavy duty master cylinder, slave cylinder, lines and metal push rod. Ford hooked me up with the parts one at a time and not prefilled so I had a great time the first swap. Now less than a year later my "Heavy Duty" push rod broke. Ford does not sell just the rod, nor does anyone else and I do not want to pay 250.00 just to get the new rod. Any suggestions? Also what is the perment fix for this problem, I do not want to replace rods every year. Thanks.

Re: Clutch Pedal Push Rod

Have you ever greased the TOB (throw out bearing). Not sure which hvy duty rod of which you speak or what they gave you, but the 7.3 and 7.5 share many of the same parts.... so do the 300/6 and 5L trucks.

Re: Clutch Pedal Push Rod

Thanks for the reply,
The rod in the one connecting the clutch pedal to the master cylinder. I am having a new one machined out of better steel? When I put all of the new stuff in last time I greased every area that had worn on the old ones.

Re: Clutch Pedal Push Rod

What CDN is saying is that a lot of clutch release problems on these trucks come from excess pedal pressure, which is often caused by the snout on the front of the trans where the throwout bearing slides getting dry and gummy, raising the pedal effort. I have seen all kinds of busted parts including the firewall on account of this. If you pull the clutch fork and boot out of the bell housing, you can reach in and see if the TO bearing moves smoothly, and if not spray some lube on it and get it freed up.

Re: Clutch Pedal Push Rod

Thanks, I'll check it out. Is this something I can do with the Tranny in the truck?

Re: Clutch Pedal Push Rod

Yes it is a hand job, rather dirty though if you use a grease.

Re: Clutch Pedal Push Rod

Does anyone know someone who sells just the push rod? That way it doesn't cost 250.00 everytime I do this. If not I have a few extra master cylinders if anyone needs them.
