i would like to put a coolant filter on my truck, i was wondering where do i hook it up at, i was thinking just splice it in between my heater core and the block
second i want to use a filter with the sca additive already in it, i have been looking at wix filters. is this compatable with my ford diesel coolant additive?
thanks

You DO NOT want to just splice it into the heater hose. You use 2 tees to install the filter BETWEEN the two heat hoses. Get 2 small ball valves to shut off the coolant to make changing filter much less messy. The filter restricts too much coolant flow and if it installed inline it would take forever to get any heat out of the heater in the winter. Coolant passing by the tee on the trip from the heater core will draw a relatively small amt of coolant from the line going to the heater core. It takes lotsa "by-passes" to filter the coolant but it does work. Just like a by-pass oil filter does. The "pre-charge" in the filters is a biscuit and it disolves over time. It usually is the kind of SCA that Ford uses. OkieG
You need a filter head, filter, 2 "T,s", 2 valves, threaded fittings, hose barbs, clamps and hose. "T" into the inlet and outlet of the heater (reason being for the 2 T's is that if the filter plugs up you will still have flow - so no over heating issues) Valves are for when you change the filter, min loss of coolant. I use fleet guard filters (and head) with their coolant. Flush the system (donot forget the block drains and the heater. Fill with precharged antifreeze and distilled water. Use just a plain filter (no sca's) for the firs few months then change to a pre - charged once you need to adjust your ph and nitrates. Every now and again (scientific term for when you remember) feel your filter and make sure it is as hot as the hoses to make sure it has flow. Hope this helps
This company makes the kits applicable to PSD installation we asked them to make one for us but declined. I'm pretty sure we could adapt it fo a location suitable. Click web page

well it was a slow day at work so i had plenty of time to install the filter, the hardest part was finding a good location for it i ended up mounting it to the bottom of the fan shroud
after alot of thinking and talking with the other mechanic i ended up putting a T in the heater hose coming out of the head, then routing it to the inlet on my filter head. for the return i pulled the plug out of the top of the water pump and added a heater hose fitting
i have great flow to my filter and my heater core, both of them are HOT
right now i have the WIX 24070(additive free) filter, then when i replace it i will be using the 24071 additive filter

your new filter will not last the 3 months or 50K miles repalcement interval. after 1-2K miles it will be time for another new filter. reason being is that the coolant has never been filtered and will collect an enormace amount of gunk on the first time. my truck is on its 2nd filter only after 1000 miles. and when i hit 2K i will change it again. the 1st filter was filled with a paste! thats even after i flushed my motor/radiator 5 times and aput in brand new coolant and distilled water..........Gibson
