11 units is too much - will over treat the system. Remember we have a small cooling system (in the grand scheme of things). Max you want to use is 8 units, 4 units will work but will not keep the level towards the max concentration point (not a problem), 2 units will require that you use some bottled DCA to say in the 'green' if you will.

While we're on the subject of coolant filters....I had the hood open today and noticed that I plumbed it in with one side of filter into the heater hose going into the heater core and the other side of filter into the hose coming out of heater core [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif[/img]. Why? Why not just parallel to one of the hoses. I know why not to hook it directly into the hose in series, it restricts the coolant flow enough to slow the heater output on the cold Baja nights. I'm just wondering if I'm having a 'Senior Moment'/C.R.S./Brain-Fart [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif[/img]. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif[/img]Baja
provably wont affect the heat on the heater core but it could slow down the flow as you said and provably create too much pressure on the hoses or delay the flow to wpump and posterior to the radiator and then your engine could over heat.
don't know, just an idea.

Sorry Baja, but there is a problem with your puttuing it in series with the heater. When you have the heater OFF you will not get any flow. I was thinking along those some lines when it occurred to me. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bleh.gif[/img] CRS? yes.

Hi. Now I could possibly be mistaken, but as far as I know the heater core runs wild on all the IDI trucks (full flow all the time). The heat control is an air flow door. Brad

yep no flow control on the heater cores unless you have added one (which is quite the popular mod).

I would expect that there is some pressure difference between the heater core sides (input vs. output) and with installing the heater core in parallel with only one hose that you would have no pressure difference so theorically no flow would happen within the filter. That is why you installed it between BOTH hoses...
now for those that wonder why to not install it in just one hose (series with Heater core) is because the coolant filter cannot handle that much flow and will restrict the flow down to a trickle and you will freeze you coogies off in the winter if you live where there is that white stuff for half the year.
Being that Baja is in Mexico where they say "snow - what the heck is that" it would not be a problem but come north just once when the temps are low and you'll be playing in coolant on the side of the road changing it's flow pattern and wishing you plumbed it differently to begin with...
