Core Charges

Just bought 8 brand new Delphi injectors and they charged me
for the cores of my old ones. Has anyone else come across some- thing like this?
I thought core charges was for rebuilt parts only

Re: Core Charges

That's odd Core charges are not for new items, only rebuilt ones, Where was it that pulled that one on you? I'd be raising a stink. Are they REALLY new injectors that they sold you? or did they just charge you for new ones and sell you rebuilt ones?

Now if you bought them from an injection shop, They might want to BUY your cores, but you don't owe them a core charge on new ones.

Re: Core Charges

You buy a new alternator, starter, power steering pump, motor or anything else, they want your old one back. Some one wants that injector core for rebuilding. Usually on small injectors like these it costs more for all the hassle than its worth but they really aren't any good to you.

Re: Core Charges

Sounds like a bunch of crap. I usually buy "new" parts because I don't like fooling with the cores and the price is about the same if I'm not going to take the core back in anyways.

It sounds like this vendor is adding "hidden charges" to increase his profitability. Like on eBay where you buy something for $.99 then pay $15 in shipping.

Re: Core Charges

Who's the seller that charged you cores on new items? Was this via ebay? If so, carefully read the item description and see if it says anything about returning cores. It might be in the fine print, but if it's not there anyways, you can report them to the eBay Fraud & Security team (or whatever they're called now). The item description serves as the contract on the transaction. As long as you make a clear and valid case, things will usually go your way.

Re: Core Charges

ON the invoice it says Fleetsource FKA Jersey Rebuilding
The man behind the counter said they have to pay Delphi the core charge if i don't give them the Injectors.
He also said this is Delphi's way to get the old Injectors off the market so they can not be rebuilt.
Don't know if this is all BS or not, Been in car racing and auto fixing for many years and never had to pay core charges for any new auto parts.

I call bs on the delphi thing, my supplier has never asked for the cores. In fact he lets me root thru the ones he has to pick out what I want built.

I just bought new Delphi nozzles from Pensacola Fuel Injection (via ebay) like 2 weeks ago...no cores required. Man behind the counter told you a lie.

Re: Core Charges

Here in the Midwest we have core charges on just about every thing that can be rebuilt, never had any on 7.3 injectors though. So you guy on the east coast buy a water pump or anything else rebuild able they don't charge you for the core until you bring it back?

Re: Core Charges

We pay a core charge if the part used a CORE to build (rebuild).

I had seen the core charge on eBay for new stuff, I always assumed it was an error.

The fact is the cores have "some" value, and if they can get them from you they are that much better off.

Re: Core Charges

The core charge is not impossible to be true but unlikely. It may be new marketing plan. I do know that on 7.3 Powerstroke injectors they charge a core higher than the cost of the new injectors because Alliant wants the cores off of the market. So it has been done. IIRC it was $199 ea for the injectors and $220 each core charge!seen it elswhere before too.
