The decisions have been made about fixing my IDI. Im going with a crate motor from Power Pro Driveline....To the door im looking at about $5k....a little less than the rebuild was looking to be.....What kind of time frame should I be looking at to pull one motor and drop a complete motor back in (the motor comes with IP and all that installed, only accessories must be changed over).....Starting next weekend I have 18 full days that can be devoted to this task...mind you they include a few weekends so in all its over a month span of time....and thoughts or advise on my time frame and pulling the motor in general.

Time all depends on how handy you are and if you have the necessary tools.
Check the details of this crate motor. If the motor is just bored .030 over the cylinder walls will be very thin and that much closer to cavitation holes. A good reman will have all 8 cylinders sleeved.

depends on ho mechanically inclined you are. mechanically inclined person - 2 good days, mechanically challenged person - anywhere from 4 to a dropped project. make sure you get a couple cases of the good ol Silver Bullets to get you through it.

IF I was going to rebuild I was going to go with head studs, low comp coated pistons all new bearings etc...... The rebuild was going to be costly.......And Im selling my cummins as soon as I rebuild this thing.........I am fairly mech inclined...I have dropped, rebuilt and reinstalled the T-case in a few hours not to mention that I have pulled the heads on this truck.....I have all the tools and equipment....The new motor is sleeved...This will be a well planned out project seeing as how I'm doing it in the parents shop and my old man will tan my hide if it isn't done when I return to school at the end of Sept although this project will use all the money I have saved over the past few years.....college is expensive even when your working days at 60hrs a week and working nights somewhere else
Have any of you purchased a crate motor...if so from who?
