Detaching the speedo cable from the gauge

I asked in the E350 section but no one has answered. Thought I'd give this section a try.

Can someone tell me how to get the cable off the gauge on a 91 e350? I can't really see what I'm doing behind the dash and I can't get it undone. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had that trouble with my truck. After I became tired trying to reach behind the dash, I hopped under the truck, disconnected it from the transmission and pushed the jacket into the cab pushing the instrument panel out of the dash with it. It comes off easily when you have it protruding from the dash.
