Diesel Engine Swap

I'm a newbie and posted yesterday for the 1st time about my GP problem. But, I've been reading alot of other threads just for general interest. Some fascinating reading and good information.

Anyway, I was posting to ask about swapping these Navistar IDI diesels into other vehicles. I know this is way too much of a question to answer through posts on this thread so I am hoping someone knows about any article(s) about this topic. Thanks.

Welcome....... to put it mildly the IDI can go into anything as long as it will hold the weight 1000+ lbs without transmission. They are in many applications now buses, trucks like ours plus dump trucks, boats of all sizes.... and the list goes on.

Thanks for the welcome. What would be the best way to learn the particulars of a swap? What electronic goodies have to be transplanted and the like? What are the best year engines (easiest) to do for a swap?

I am thinking it would be great to do a swap into a muscle car. On a more realistic front.... I have a Dodge 1 ton van/cab dually truck (for towing). It is a 440 V8 but I have not used it in several years. Any magazine or e-zine articles about how to do the swap?

Swap Info

Beyond the mounting of the engine and tranny and driveshaft fabrication. The 6.9 and 7.3 are super easy motors. Supply diesel to the lift pump and the return line back to the tank. Electrically, You need 12V dc to the injection pump and a way to make the glow plugs hot for a few seconds (can use a momnetary pushbutton). Main Battery power to the starter and power to the bendix when the key is in the start position. That is it. If you start with a running truck (6.9 or 7.3) you can verify the incomming power before you cut the wires.
