Exclamation Difference in trannies between Brianstruckshop and ATS?

As you all know, my truck is dead in Colorado Springs, with the younger brother , (the story is my thread 'Need Tranny Help).

I was looking at an ATS tranny suitably strengthened when I was given a link to Brian's Truck Stop and I found quite a few threads here with his work. A lot o people like his work.

So ... has anyone here tried the ATS upgraded trannies?

ATS is higher $$$, but Arvada Co is a lot closer to Colorado Springs, than Ark AND my truck will have to be towed either place.

More time and money for a tow to Ark, lower cost for tranny in Ark.

Opins. Guesses. History. Novellas. Anything please.

Updated 12/21/08.

Please see my last post appended to bottom. DON'T get your tranny from ATS.

Have you approached the local Ford dealer......... most of theirs are upgraded to maximum specs now. They can install and service plus do the line flush and installation of the new oil cooler with a magnafine filter in line as required....... come with a 3 year warranty.
Probably around $3500+/- Check for US forces discount they may be patriotic......

Simple you get a real Warranty from BTS..race, pull, go crazy and it will be fixed...FREE try that with ATS.

FindATrans.com - Transmission Repair Get Quotes and Prices

You might try this to find a shop and get a quote. Personally I'd do like cdnsarguy said, about a Ford shop. Depending on how much you want to spend for repairs/update, maybe they can diagnose what the problem really is, might not be all that bad and at least get you going.

To get your truck to BTS is going to be costly, bet around $1500. You can get a quote on line from DAS shipping. They wanted 1200 to ship my truck from S. Carolina to Ohio, then they would drop it in Toledo 90 mi. away from me, but for an extra 500 they would drop it at my door, even the fact they go right past me to Toledo. LOL

BTS will ship you a transmission. I think it's the same price whether they ship it to you, or, you come there and they put it in. I know the cost of installation is included in the price if you go there to get it. But, you could always have one shipped to you and have someone put it in there.

Aren't there any diesel shops in Co. Springs, Denver, ect... that are BTS reps/installers?

Well its done.

All the local Fored dealers are apparently owned by the same guy. Price was around $3200 installed, all were 'no stronger than normal'. Didn't go that way.

BTS was about $4600 installed. Tempted.

ATS went just under $4K installed, (and they fixed a sticking rear brake for free), as I'm over here they cut me a good discount. Went with it. Am more than happy with the service and assistance they provided.

My brother says it a day/night difference (I'll get to drive it around Oct timeframe). Now if he can stay off the pedal! That's my job.......

I think cdnsarguy is on to something. After 204k miles my tranny is showing signs of need of replacement. The Ford tranny is built by Ford (not farmed out), has all of the upgrades, a 3yr 75k mile warranty and comes with a torque converter and full of fluid. I figure if I got 204k out of this one, I'll give another one a try! My Ford dealer quoted me $3k, and does have a 15% military discount.

Brian doesn't care what you use the transmission for. Truck pulling, drag racing, trailer towing, mudding, etc... His warranty is simple. 2 years, unlimited mileage, anything you can do to it is covered.
ATS has a much more complicated warranty. I believe it was them, although it might have been suncoast that requires that you use ONLY their programming, AND send them transmission fluid samples avery 3-6 months. They can void your warranty if they don't like what they see in the fluid, or forget to send some in, or use someone else's programming.

Not that programming matters in this area of the forum.

To the OP: I'm sure Brian or someone else there would be glad to fix the sticking brake for minimal cost, if any cost, as long as it doesn't require a parts run. Heck, they might even then.

Sorry for not being clear.

I've gone and had the ATS tranny installed and will let everyone know of my adventures with it.

Crappy service from ATS?

Well my brother is having some issues with ATS. Not 2 months into the new tranny and its slipping. shifting strangely.

The first story was that is was 'contaminated fluid' and needed a power flush and new filter. done, still slipping. Its been in the ATS shop now about 3 1/2 weeks and they still haven't gotten around to getting it done.

Anyone else had as crappy an experience with ATS as this?

Recommendations on who to talk to there (other than Jason whoever he is)?

If need be, recommendation on who to call/chat with in the colorado state attorney general's office?
