Dip Sticks

Hey buds~

I've had the "big white pig" on the road for a few weeks now with new heads etc. LOVING THAT ATS TURBO~~

I need to check my tranny level as it's shifting wierd but the dip stick is so far down along the motor that I can only get it out when its cold cause it takes two hands to get it back in the hole!...hot manifolds and sutch! OUCH
Also my oil dip stick tube is just sort of flopping around and held in place with zip ties?

I plan to have my tranny guy give it the once over and service it and am thinking of asking him to correct the length/position issue if possible......IS IT POSSIBLE?

Until I remedy the problem, If I pull the stick out of a cold non running motor is there a level that would be normal to help me gauge if I need to add?

Any and all reply's will be greatly appreciated!

Re: Dip Sticks

It should be at least an inch or two above the "full" mark when the engine is off, since when it's running it sucks some ATF into the torque converter. You could check it when you first start the engine before it gets a chance to get really hot, just keep in mind that it will expand and raise up maybe 1/4-1/2" when the ATF is up to temperature.

Re: Dip Sticks

You'd have to be careful with that method...it is ONLY accurate if the trans fluid is warm and has been shifted through all gears, sitting on level ground, etc.
About your engine oil dipstick- there should be a small mounting bracket tack-welded onto the tube that holds it fast against the engine block. The tube simply presses into the oil pan, and is sealed with an o-ring. It's a pain, but I'd wiggle the whole thing out of there and check for the bracket and for the o-ring.

WEVE all pulled sticks out of a non running potential purchase to see/smell the fluid and they are usually and inch or so above the full mark...just pulled mine out and it was at the second little hole from the bottom so that tells me I need to add!
I can't believe how hard that stick is to get to~~~~ and to put back....could it be a replacement trans with a diferent stick arangement?
