E04D not going into first right

Okay I titled this just like the old post (3/2/06). I have the same symptoms. I've checked all connections. Checked the TPS and got a low reading of 1.22v and high of 3.85v. After reading the old post I'm still not sure just which way to go. Should the TPS be exactly 1.00v and 4.3v on the high side? Didn't see any bent pins, broken wires, water or anything.

Re: E04D not going into first right

I'd suggest replacing the TPS and setting it. Based on your readings you may have some internal corrosion of the TPS.

One thing - you should test and adjust with the motor warm (resistance changes with temperature).

Re: E04D not going into first right

Book states........no forward engagement

Fluid level or condition

Shift linkage.. internal external or cable.. damaged misadjusted or disconnected

Improper pressures.. low line pressure

Pump inlet filter and seal assy.. plugged/damaged..filter seal gamaged/cut

There are six other areas of concern......all going deeper into the trans than the Harveyhandyman should/could go...

Re: E04D not going into first right

Ok. I finally got around to replacing the TPS. No change in the way trans works. Question is what exactly should the reading on the voltmeter be? In an old post I saw less than 1V at idle and no more than 4V at WOT. Right now I have .70 at idle and roughly 3.4 at WOT. What should I be looking for?

Re: E04D not going into first right

You need to adjust the TPS so you have 1.0V at idle and that's with the idle stop solenoid "up".

Re: E04D not going into first right

What do you mean by idle solenoid "up"?

Re: E04D not going into first right

The engine RPM required: is curb idle which is 650 rpm, warm engine in gear....... so set the warm engine rpm, then shut it off and do the FIPL setting while warm.
