E350 Brake Signal

I hope that someone out there has at least a partial answer. I have lost the brake lights on an E350. There is no voltage getting to the brake lights. I have torn apart the harness under the hood and discovered that the signal does get to the TECA and to the ABS unit.

This all started when the front seal blew out of the transmission (E6OD) and the transmission shop is telling me that the problem is electrical due to the brake lights not working.

I have the wiring diagrams, however, the wire colors do not exactly match the colors called out on the diagram. I do not have the breakdown of all of the connectors and pin numbers for the circuit. I have followed the wire until it goes down under the vehicle where I cannot find the circuit at what I believe is the first connector.

Since this is the case I believe that the wire is broken between the splice for the TECA and ABS and this connector. Replacing the wire is easy, however, I need to know the pin number.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

John

Re: E350 Brake Signal

The fuses are good. I have voltage at two points on this circuit and lose it after the second point. It is a '92.

Re: E350 Brake Signal

Did you start at the brake light switch and trace power through the turn signal switch first?

Re: E350 Brake Signal

As far as I can tell the brake light circuit does not go into the turn signal circuit. The wiring diagrams show seperate bulbs at the ends of the two circuits. Yellow lenses for turn signals and red lenses for brake lights. Also the physical wiring goes from a 15 amp fuse through the brake light switch and out through the firewall to the TACA and the ABS box then into the harness that goes to the rear of the vehicle. I assume that the transmission picks up its connection on the way back.

Re: E350 Brake Signal

If you have a 3 filament system (separate t/s bulb), then you are right, it does not go through the t/s switch. Good luck.
