Re: e40d transmission problem

You can buy a scanner at WalMart and check for codes. Your transmission is going into a "safe" mode as mine did. Barring any quick and easy problems like the speed or tach sensor, it usually indicates an upcoming rebuild.

If that be the case, his shifting problems wouldn't clear up after a battery disconnect. Sounds like a TPS, also R&R the plug on the pass side of the trans, if that helps, the plug might need replacement.

Re: e40d transmission problem

Your mechanical engine has an electronically controlled transmission. There is a "Throttle Position Sensor" (TPS for short) mounted on the driver's side of the fuel injection pump. They can get knocked out of adjustment, fail, and the wiring (as others have suggested) can become a problem with the trans computer getting decent signals.

Without a good understanding of all things electrical, and a GOOD (read factory) service manual and wiring diagram, I am sorry to report that there is little one can do except by trial and error.

Does your od light blink? If you would like instructions to check the fipl or tps let me know.
