E4Od and the TCM Relay

Last week I was doing some PM on the truck and found that the TCM Relay had gotten covered in oil from a leaking bottle of tranny fluid that I keep just under the drivers side hood suppost. I tried cleaning the relay with 'Electrical Contact Cleaner', BUZZZZZ! Won't do that again! I put it back in and tried to go to town, BUZZZZZZZ, tranny won't shift and the TACH won't spin up. Limp home. Now, I'm CUSSIN' UP A FRIGGIN' STORM!!!! STAY OUTTA MY WAY IF YA KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR YA!!!! We WERE gonna drive the truck to San Diego the next day. Now I gotta drive the Subaru(awesome LITTLE car, but I was really lookin' forward to drivin' "The Ugly Truckling" ). So, while we're in 'the real world' I buy two new TCM Relays, one from Autozone($15.00) and one from Ford Stealership($24.00)since I was there buying the Tach Sensor($51.00 friggin ). When we get home I put in the Autozone TCM Relay(bells ringing), YEEEESSS, it works and Tach spins up and OD Light is not ON(another YEEESSSS). So, now I've got 2 MORE New Spare Parts(might have to start my own parts store ). The Moral of the Story? Keep that TCM Relay CLEAN. One more odd little thing....the old Relay had ONLY 4 prongs and the new one has 5, the female receptacle for the relay only has 4 wires, but everything works. Go Figure? Well, I gotta go into town now and make the rounds paying the bills , I'll let you know if something else goes 'belly-up'. Wish me luck, Baja

Re: E4Od and the TCM Relay

That other terminal is the normally closed portion of the contacts. Some relays will have both sets of contacts (normally open and normally closed).

Re: E4Od and the TCM Relay

Hey Baja, If you know ahead of time when you'll be coming across the border, let know, maybe we can get together. I work in Coronado, not that far from the border, of course we might want to meet a little north of the border (less chance of a stray round clipping us or the trucks )
My diesel pulse adapter gets lonely when it's not being used .

Not exactly true, cops, drug dealers (sometimes hard to tell difference) & the federales have plenty of hardware, unless you're wealthy you can't have much in the way of firearms down there.

Ever since it got around(grape vine) that I killed a pit bull with my bare hands for killing my cat, no one messes with me!!! I'm NOT saying that I could stop a bullet, I've already got a BIG HOLE in my arm to prove that. Down here, it's good to adopt the "hear no evil, see no evil, and DEFINATELY...SPEAK NO EVIL philosophy !!! I STILL 'hit the dirt' with loud bang type noises, and my landlord won't come to my door at night anymore since I knocked him on his ass one night. I went outside to see what the dogs were barking at and as I was opening the door he spoke and I just reacted, oops. Another of the reasons that the V.A. pays me not to work, especially around other people. Ya just don't want to surprise me . Baja Jerry, keep those tools in yer truck.

Now, now, people(good PC-ness?), you're ALL my 'bestest friends' and hopefully I'll be able to 'make the rounds' to see most of you once I get my tail back to that 'real world' that you live in. I just hope 'The Ugly Truckling' holds together long enough to get us to Texas/Oklahoma. We're hoping that we can afford to live there. Baja

Re: E4Od and the TCM Relay

Baja,

I wish I could afford to live here in San Diego .
But, I did put my 'toys' in the truck and you're a little over an hour away depending on the border crossing wait. Probably good thing to check that out before you make the move to Tejas, if you're moving to the rio Grande Valley section, make sure you're far enough away from the river to minimize your flooding problems, & I really don't get the living in "Toronado Alley" thing, was in Lubbock once during a hurricane . If I could I'd get my company to transfer me to Texas (or Tucson)because things are a lot cheaper there especially horse property. But, my wife feels safer/more comfortable being close to the team that did her kidney transplant. Call me.
