I couldn't find the answer when searching this forum . I am going to replace my 1994 F250 E4OD with a used transmisson and want buy the right one . Are all E4OD transmissions the same ? What source of E40D and TC will work in my (all models please cars, trucks, gas, diesel )- Thanks
Haven't we talked about this? Didn't you just have your E4OD rebuilt recently? Spend the "used trans money" to buy the Baumann TCS @ www.becontrols.com , you'll be glad you did. OkieGringo
Since the E4OD has an integral bellhousing, the only thing that will bolt up is from a 7.3L diesel. 89 - 94 is a direct bolt in, 95+ uses a 6 stud converter.
The biggest bolt-in change over the years has been the solenoid pack, I believe that was in 95. After my first "good used" E4OD failed in under a month, I went to Ford and got a reman which is a newer case and parts with the proper solenoid and converter to work with the IDI.
ALSO, before you replace the trans, check all your sensors and connections. These transmissions are electronically controlled and shifted, and if you bolt in a new trans to a bad sensor, it will not work right either. A bad sensor will kill a new trans just like it will an old one.

I am a little confused - Do you mean that the 89-94 bell housing is the only one that will fit ? Or will the 95+ fit with a change to a the 6 stud converter ? - Thanks

you can use the 95-02 i think, any diesel E4OD or 4r100. 95-02 you will need to use an idi torque convertor and selinoid pack.

I had my old trans rebuilt a year ago and it was upgraded with all the "newer" internals, like the new styl sol. pack, new design pump, range switch, and also rebuilt the valve body and modifyed the TC lockup circut to lock up better. All this ran me 2000. but it was worth it because I now all the "old" parts have been replaced with better ones that shouldnt have the same problems. Oh yeah, it also has a billet steel torque converter with more clutch material inside for stronger TC lockup.

So, what do we have to do to make a 6-stud TC work in a 89-94 E4OD. I haven't taken mine out so I don't know how the TC attaches to the engine. I'm getting a 'blank' trying to visualize the connection. Thanks, OG
How about we put are our 4-bolt tc in the newer tranny or you could probably drill the new holes in the flywheel.
