engine swap

Its time for a new engine in my 87 f-350 with a 6.9. I was wondering if anyone has put a 7.3 idi in there truck. If so how hard is it and what would i have to change. Is it even worth messing with. What about a powerstroke has anyone done one of them. I plan on buying a truck with a low mile engine and 5 spd tranny. I wanna put the 5spd in my 87 4x4 and was wondering what that would take to get done. Then i will put all my stuff back in that one truck and sell it. Does anyone have any suggestions on anyting while i am at this stage I want to explore all of my options. I posted this same forum in the 6.9 one but i was wondering if you have any suggestions here

Re: engine swap

You can use a 6.9 or 7.3. The PS would fit, but you would have to swap the entire computer and all. If you are not turbo, you may want to go to the 7.3 IDI turbo, it has a little bigger rods and innards. But you can look up Roadmaster engine and they have an entire short block for 2K or so. Alot of options. Scotty

Re: engine swap

Scotty,

Do you know if the Roadmaster engines are sleeved or not?

Re: engine swap

i just put 96' PSD in a 93' IDI chassis and swapped to 5 speed. i would only do it if you have a COMPLETE psd truck to slaughter. you need so many small things you can't think of.

Re: engine swap

I believed they are NOT sleeved. Not sure, or positive though, I believe they are just regular old short blocks. Scotty
