engine swap

I'm new to this site. Wow! What a welth of info. If it wasn't for guys like you, guys like me would'nt have trucks that ran. Thanks!
I currently have a 91 F-350 with a 7.3L and 4 speed auto (not sure of the trany model, the previous owner had the stock one replaced with a newer-rebuilt one from a PSD, which seems to be a fairly common pratice around here. The 7.3 is nearly dead(very low oil pressure, lots of blow-by, and a ton of blue smoke.) Knowing a rebuild is emenent I have a few questions:
1) I am consedering rebuilding a 6.9L to replace the 7.3L to avoid the cavitation issue as well as better cold-weather starting. Will the trany work with the 6.9L? will it bolt up?
2) In an attempt to milk the current engine I just replaced the injectors, can I use them in the 6.9L?
3) Will the IP and injector lines work on the 6.9L? ( to avoid having to track down another wireing harness)
4) Are the glow plugs the same except for the connectors?
5) is there anything else I should be looking for/considering before begining this project?
Thanks again for all your help.[list]

Re: engine swap

Every thing will switch over. Injectors are the same. Pump is different. Wiring harness is the same as the late model 6.9's. I think the e4od should work to, mine was a C6 and every thing switched just fine.
One thing to consider, a lot of 6.9's had problems with the block cracking down by the starter frost plug, some can be fixed, many can't be. If I was going to do it I would sleeve a 7.3 and rebuild that instead.

Re: engine swap

I agree with Greg. I'd sleeve the 7.3 to 6.9 size cylinders and have the best of both worlds - thick cylinders for no cavitation worries, and the big head bolts for less headgasket worries.
