Re: external turbo wastegate

why would you want a wastegate on a turbo made for your truck to be non-wastegate?

Re: external turbo wastegate

Some of the Cummins crowd use a small leak off device externally actuated, at times welded to an exhaust housing pre-turbine. On an ATS system, that might be mounted at right angles to the cross over pipe which navigates under the engine driver side back up to passenger feed into tubine housing. Usually on a race truck the exhaust from this device is vented to atmosphere.
You could do this, what would be the point on a non waste-gated ATS turbo though?

Re: external turbo wastegate

he mentioned is an older ats so provably they did not come wastegated back then. he want to get it real cheap and add the wastegate option to make it like the new ones i guess.

Re: external turbo wastegate

In order for that setup to be effective, you will need a smaller turbine housing with an A/R ratio in the .7 to .8 range to speed up the turbo so you can slow it back down with the waste gate to maintain around 10 psi.
