I'm looking at a '90 Utilimaster stepvan built on an F-Superduty chassis. It has a 7.3L IDI and 5-speed. The seller says its needs some injector or IP work - perhaps a rebuild.
Before I go to have a look at it, is there anything specific to the F-Superduty chassis I should look out for? Typical problems, weaknesses, common wear items, etc.
TIA

Other rigs I goof around with regularly:
93 F350 4x4, 7.3 IDI turbo, 5spd, 4.10s
90 F250 4x4, 7.3 IDI, 5spd, 3.55s, D60 swap, straight pipe, turned up fuel screw
My only suggestion would be check the rear axle ratio......and SCAs of course.

93 F250 7.3 IDI S/C XLT 4X4 E40D 3.55LS, Captains chairs, Tutone Mocha, Leer 48" Hiboy cap, FR & RR hitches, full DeeZee running boards. Factory ordered/delivered Jan 93 has 160K+, it's basically a stock truck with all the Ford options, just no disc player.

Yea with the @15K GVWR some pretty low axle ratios were available. I believe the highest ratio is 4.30.
The F-Superduty is a good light medium duty truck, basically a super 1 ton. It has a heavier rear axle and a straight front axle. IMO the one downside is that they used 16" tires which limits the ability to handle overloading (The F-450 that replaced it uses 19.5" tires). Basically the tires can handle the design load, but can't handle being overloaded.

All good info! I like it for what it is. But with the needed injector work, number of years it has sat, and possible bylaw complications arising from parking something this size in my driveway - I think I am going to pass on it.
I've found a source for retired late-90s E350 'shortbus' conversion vans. These seem about as heavy-duty as I need, and should go over a little nicer with the neighbours.

I have abused some F450's in my fleet for years. Portable toilet trucks. The only additional problem from them is the parking brake unit on the rear of the trans. Basically they used a 4x4 trans with a bearing unit and drum parking brake, since it has rear discs. The bearing compartment on the parking brake holds about 1 teaspoon of oil so if there is any leak it ruins the bearing real quick. The park beake unit is about $1,500!
The front spring shacles are the same as F250/350 4x4's, same tiny upper bushing, using poly helps. A creative guy can make a new upper mount for a full length bushing. The track bar is critical, if the bushings or bolt are loose, death wobble will occur! Poly here too.
I have 5.13's stock in one of them, 4.33 would be more reasonable. Still running 2, on the bubble about fixing one back into service.
