I am also considering exhausts. What diameter do i need, hyper max makes one the is 3.5 inches in diameter. Is this the right size for this truck, or does it need to be bigger considering that i am dumping a lot more air in to the motor. Do i need to run dual exausts?

Please fill out your truck's information in your signature so we can see what you have everytime you post. That would help us out alot.
Anyways, about your question- yes, 3.5" is plenty for our trucks- you won't get much, if any, gain at all going any larger. It WILL have a deeper tone the larger you go, however.
Do you have access to a shop with tools to do an exhaust job (mainly, a MiG welder)? If so, it would be much cheaper to just go to an exhaust shop and buy your own piping, then fabricate up your own.

i made my own 4inch exhaust using 4in emt pipe and a miller stick welder (3/32nd 7018 rods)it took some time but i finshed it in about a week and it sounds great with the 8in stacks.
I believe that Hypermax gives you 3.5" from the Y-pipe back. Hypermax has a good price but by the time you add on the shipping costs, you may have other alternatives available.
The original y-pipe on the IDI's does not provide for the best flow-thru. I think that Banks has a 3" y-pipe with improved flow.

thanks
I think I will by some exhaust tubing and make my own because i want it to exit the truck forward of the rear axle, I know that banks make a bigger diameter y pipe, but i thought that it was only avalibe through purchasing the turbo kit, is there any way to just buy the y pipe?

I have the Banks Y on the 86. Nice piece. I picked up 1 mpg with it and 3" exhaust, straight thru muffler. Now I HEAR that Banks discontinued them.......
I just put a Walker Dynomax system on one of my work trucks. Decent Y pipe, the rest is 4" Powerstroke parts.
If I had to do that one again, I would have used the Auto-Jet one. Sorry i don't have links for ya.
