fuel filter change and coolant procedures

can anyone give me some beta on the proper way to change my fuel filter and purge the air out of the fuel system? and also the best way to flush the coolant system? i know that i need to fill the new filter with fuel before i put it on but i don't see any kind of air purge valve.... on the coolant i was thinking of putting one of those valves on a heater hose that allows one to hook a water hose up and purge the whole system out, is that okay with a diesel? is it okay to run the engine for a few minutes with no sca's and coolant in it while the system flushes?

thanks!

Re: fuel filter change and coolant procedures

I've always pre-filled the fuel filter with atf and have never had a problem with initial start up after replacement. I've never had to purge the fuel system.

Re: fuel filter change and coolant procedures

You can use an additive like Power service or Stanadyne or the ATF if that is your choice. To purge the air press the filter header Schrader valve core in while cranking the engine until air is all expelled.

Coolant flush we advise the installation of "Baja drains" do a search for that info.......

If you are doing a flush think about a new tstat and check the upper coolant manifold check ball..... see my gallery.

Visit ..... http://www.intellidog.com/dieselmann/idi.htm

Ford or IH tstats only are to be used.......
