Fuel like liquid on starter drive under engine?

Hi, I dont drive my truck much in the winter, but did this past weekend. When I parked it, I crawled underneath and saw what looked like a diesel fuel on the starter drive/nose, etc...where it would mount into the engine. I wiped it off and it seemed like diesel, but may have also been mixed with water from a puddle I drove through....the filer area above was dry...
ANy ideas wheat this could be from? It had several drips and had dripped down on the exhaust pipe too??? [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

It's probably diesel fuel which runs off the back of the intake and down the block. How does it start? Does it crank a while before starting? I'd take a look at the return lines and plastic caps, to see if they're wet. Take a look at the filter too. Make sure it's tight and the gaskets are in good condition and that they're not doubled up.
