Galvanized Fuel Tank

So, It happened like this. My neighbor while driving down the freeway at about 70 mph in his 2001 F-350 and it just stops running. This is about 2 weeks after Ford replaced a fuel pump (thats in the tank) because the truck was running very poorly. This time he has it towed home and he removes the fuel tank. What do you think he found plugging up the screen in the tank? Yep, it was the galvanizing liner of the tank. This is a factory installation tank that came form the factory that built the truck. So lots of money later with a plastic lined tank hes back on the road. He had no idea diesel could and will eat the galvanized tank. I told him "all" his expensive injectors were next to go. I'm a great guy...... IDI Till I Die.....

WHAT!?!?!

I thought we diesel jockeys were to AVOID galvanized tanks! What is Ford doing putting them in new trucks?

His truck must be a mutt. 01 F series diesel fuel pump is on the drivers side frame rail under the cab. The gassers use the intank pump.

Re: Galvanized Fuel Tank

I guarantee you I'd be raising Holy Hell over that. I can't believe Ford would make this type of mistake.
