getting the most out of an IDI

I love my truck to death and wouldnt want to loose it. i know many of y'all feel the same way about your baby. my baby just aint puttin out enough low-end tourqe to get goin with my 32' BigTex/tractor like our Dodge will My truck is completly stock except for the dulled 2.25" exhaust with glasspacks. how much better would i be able to pull (slow) if i turned my injector pump up, cut the glass packs off, put a cold air intake, and added propane (might not get it but just need to know ) Gibson

Re: getting the most out of an IDI

Not that I know everything, but here is my 2 cents. I just finished a propane injection system. Here is an excellent source for where I built my system from:

http://www.mrsharkey.com/lpg.htm

I have not road tested my system yet, but I have played with it. I gotta get my pinion seal replaced tomorrow. I probably spent $300 on my top end system. I have heard like a 50hp gain is possible w/propane. Don't know how much torque though.

As far as your exhaust goes, it sounds like you are doing ok. Glasspacks are pretty non restrictive and allow for lots of flow. I have heard that with straight pipes diesels are extremely loud. I would leave your exhaust.

With your intake, it depends where your intake draws air from. My van takes air in from right under the hood. The best place would be down close to the ground (heat rises).

I hope my advice helps a bit.

Re: getting the most out of an IDI

You need a turbo! If you love your truck like I do mine, you'll realize it was the best money you could have ever spent. Aside from that, evaluate how long it's been since you put a new injection pump and injectors in it. The fuel systems weenie out over time, such that you don't notice it. The horsepower just keeps dropping until one day you realize the truck just doesn't impress you like it did when you first got it. A fuel system refresh can breath new life in an old motor.

Believe me I can vouch for Mel on that one. Just finished mine couple of weeks ago and WOW she runs like a new engine... Minus the HG's leaking.

Re: getting the most out of an IDI

March must be the month of HG's on the Chinese calendar, cause it seems like I am not the only one with the problem.. Man, I wished I could have skipped March until next year. Scotty

Oh yeah, a turbo and propane will make your truck move out really nice and the new IP and Injectors will breath alot of life back into the truck.. Scotty
