glow plugs run for 15-20sec - Diesel Forum

since i did my truck rebuild i've noticed the glow plugs running for upwards of 15 seconds. i don't have a wts light so i just wait until the voltage kicks higher indicating the gp's are off.
After it finally kicks off the truck will fire within 5 seconds of cranking. usually within the first full turn over if temps are above freezing. Ideas to why the gps are running so long?

isn't 10-15 seconds normal. My WTS light will stay on for about 12 seconds and then the controller will cycle for a little bit longer.

This time of the year for Pa your time is correct. You can crank once the relay starts cycling the GP's.

Mine do the same, 15-20 seconds from dead cold, even when engine is all warmed up they still glow for at least 5 sec.

Up here it's -25*F tonight, my GPs with engine plugged in all night will run 25 seconds in the AM......... and start on the second rotation.

I like the cold and know how to dress for it. Nothing more invigorating than sweeping a foot of fresh snow off the truck then running a snow blower for 2 hours in -20*F on a sunny day.

I tried the Vero Beach thing years ago (76-78).

For PETE sakes, pun intended, will you try and keep that cold up there, don't need it here in Ohio.

And Snotzalot, please keep the roads clear over your way, gotta go to Gilbert soon and pick up an engine.
