My dads 1990 7.3 won't start as of lately. It always started hard (had to use either on cold days) even though it had new glow plugs installed a couple years ago. A couple of days ago when I went out to start it, I cycled the glow plugs twice and when I turned the key, it just made a continous clicking sound. I thought that the batteries were just really weak so I put it on the charger. When i put the charger on to "jump start" it kicked the charger off. Then when I turn the key, the glow plug controller starts clicking immediately (doesn't sound like the normal "click...click...click" the way they usually do) and there shows no volts on the meter on the dash. I was going to get new batteries but I don't really think that is the main issue. Do you think I need a new GP controller or is it just the batteries?

Mine did that and all that happened was the wire going to the starter had worked loose and wasn't making good contact...probably not your issue but maybe...

Well my dad says that as soon as you turn the key, all power to the truck is lost. The ignition, door alarm, dome light, interior lights all shut off and won't come back on until after it sits, then the same thing happens.

Do a test light check on all the GPs... what brand were they.

Wow I can't believe it. I plugged in the the truck and put it on the charger that seemed to help but the problem was solved when I put on the new poss. cable. I can't believe that is all it was but I guess so. Thanks though. I still do have a problem with the glowplugs (cause I have to use starting fluid when its a little colder) but the big problem is solved.
