Good buy?

My boss sold me the truck i have now and now he is trying to pawn another one on me. Another 1990 F250 almost identical to the one i have now. ZF5 tranny, 7.3 idi non turbo, regular cab, 8foot box, 4 wheel drive, but this one has 86xxx miles on it. I was surprised when he told me this only 86xxx i thought that maybe it had rolled over atleast once but he showed me old records that show only 86xxx miles on the truck. The enigine sounds strong but isn't going anywhere because of a busted clutch. The bed is junk, it is so bad that the floor has waves in it where the cross members are. But the rest of it is SOILD. For 1000 bucks you guys think that it is worth it? i know that low milage is as problemactic as high milage but it appears to be well maintained (cept for the bed being beat to hell). But id like to buy this for my little brother as his first truck but i am goin away to college in the fall and don't want to leave him with problems. Is it worth it?

Re: Good buy?

$1000???? wow! i baught mine a year and a half ago for 4,000. Mine has 82k on the clock....but the speedometer was inplugged when i got it. My engine is real strong...my prolbmes were with the damn e4od tranny, but you obvioulsy don't have to worry about that. I'm sure you could buy it and resell it within a week for atleast three times that.

Re: Good buy?

Maybe $500 for a used bed, from a wrecker yard. I think they said clutches can be had for about $200 in another thread I read tonight. Biggest expense/effort would be in painting the new bed to match the truck. You're looking at having a ~$2500 truck...sounds like a good deal. I'm not far below having that in the '86 in my sig...

Re: Good buy?

Buy it for your brother! I can't think of a better present.

If he doesn't mind the bumpy ride of a 3/4 ton. He could also buy or brew biodiesel, that will make him a big hit with the enviromental crowd or just smell good for the ladies...so many possibilities.
