GP Problem

My father-in-law and I have swapped 7.3's from a box truck into a 89 ford f-350 crew cab. We are having a problem with the glow plugs. Turn the key and the light comes on and sometimes the glow plug energizes and sometimes it doesn't. I have to turn the key on and off a few times and then it will start clicking and then it will start.

Is there a relay or something that is bad causing the GP to not work something.

I am no diesel expert.....as you can tell.

Re: GP Problem

Welcome to the site, before the day is over many experts will chime in to solve your problem. ( I am not one of them ) I just wanted to say Hi. There is a glow plug relay / timing circuit you will have to check.

Re: GP Problem

Check the ground wire on the gp relay(located behind the breather assy)Usually they are grounded to the valve cover bolt, you may want to relocate it to one of the exhaust manifold bolts.
