Ok just had to brag a little bit. I WORKED ON # DIFFERENT CHEBBYS TODAY! hahahahahahahah. My buddies girlfriends 72 chevy pickup blew an altenator belt so i had to change that in the school parking lot. Then my buddy came over and i changed his u joint, did you know they put nylon on the ujoint caps to hold them and you have to apply heat to them to get them to pop out. i learned that after beating fro 30 min. with a quick call to my dad. Got that done then another buddy came over who has a 02 chevy pickup and his truck is really screwy. It smokes hevy out of the vents from the dash, he can turn off the key with his lights on and it will run till he shuts his lights off, sometimes. we ended up having to pull the main relay to get it to shut off. i belive its the main wiring harness.
Moral of the Story, buy a FORD!

If a 1972 truck (you pick brand) needs an alt belt I would not call that a bad vehicle, if a vehicle needs a ujoint I would not call that bad either, and for wiring problems... Dang all of these things can happen on any vehicle. Ever seen a Ford eat head light switches because they ran full power through the switch to power the headlights that was a brain fart design move if you ask me.
Enterprise had her fair share of ujoints in her past but I did not condemn her for that I sealed her fate for other reasons.
Yep I replaced the headlight switch on her as well...
Ford is not without their problems either... There is no "it don't need fixing ever" truck or car on the market - trust me...

-Coolant sensor shot
-O2 sensor shot
-Engine burns oil heavily
-Parking brake doesn't work (factory recall of which we were never notified until reading up online)
-Turn signal relay clicks just for fun
-Battery terminal had to be replaced... frozen to battery. GM wanted $100 to replace. We fixed it for $10 an lots of elbow grease thanks to GM's crummy sidepost battery plasicky connectors.
Blah all over the new GM trucks. I'd take a pre-2000 model of their brand over a new, plasticked-out Silverado ANY day.

yea, those are called melt in joints. The goo is squished in after the U joint is assembled on the shaft though the small holes in the sides. We got a pile of them in the scrap pile at our race shop.We can't use them but for some reason we keep getting more of them. Can't find Bastard Joints(true name,GM drive shaft to Ford Pinion U joints) that fit.

Maybe, as long as it's not a Windstar. Biggest piece of crap I've ever owned, right alongside the old Dodge Daytona.

Oh yeah don't get me started... We have a Windstar sitting in the driveway... I know some of the parts in it are good because I helped make 'em... but the rest of it Door lock actuators that work when they feel like it (hummm The E had the same problem) - check engine light stuck on for whatever reason - have to take it in to see what they say... but it's sort of amazing it came on not very long after we flipped 60k miles on the odo... hummm wonder if some built in a service call... Power seat controls that at just plain JUNK!!! I have to keep putting it back together and if you hold it just right, while standing on your left foot with saturn inline with Jupitor it might just freaking work... Even Sherri wants to get rid of it and it was her dream vehicle...

I've got the check engine light, rack and pinion going out, rear heat won't blow hot, tranny stuttering.....
cartrackers.com used to have a really good forum on these things, but they shut it down last august. I think you can still go through the archives though.

Can't really say anything about our Windstar. It's been a good vehicle. The check engine light is caused (usually) by that damn federally mandated fuel tank presure check. The vent tube (leading to the gas cap filler area) gets clogged, and the tank can't vent which throws a 1450 code and turns on the MIL. If you blow it out every oil change, it will behave.
