Hard start after fuel filter change

After changing my fuel filter, my '90 F-250 has developed a hot hard starting problem after sitting for an hour or more. When I changed the filter, it took a lot of cranking to bleed. Now, when it's been sitting for an hour or more, it spins as if it has no fuel, but, for now, will start after 3 or 4 cranking periods of 10 seconds or so. Before changing the filter, it started anytime, no matter the temperature. The truck has 330K miles on the original injection pump, so I'm guessing that's the problem from reading other posts, and I have not tried pouring water on the IP as recommended in other posts. Operation of the fuel shutoff has been verified. I'm not opposed to rebuilding/replacing the pump, but I was hoping someone would be able to explain why the problem appeared after changing the fuel filter.

Thanks,

Jason

Sounds like you need to check your return line hoses now. Just a guess here... but you probably knocked one loose or forgot to put one back one. So now every time you shut your engine off the fuel filter drains out a bit making your engine have to reprime it every time you want to start. It's happend to me before... Look for any fuel leaking anywhere and possibly dripping off the bottom of the engine.

I checked the return hoses and no problem there. Wouldn't the return hoses cause the hard start problem no matter the engine temp? It can sit overnight and start like normal, but starts hard after it's been shut off for 1-4 hours.

Thanks,

Jason

Yes, I'm getting pressure from the schraeder as soon as it starts to spin.
