Heater Core.....

Turned on the defrost yesterday morning for the first time in a while and the aroma of antifreeze filled the cab instantly. Any helpful hints on how to pull and replace the heater core???

Re: Heater Core.....

Easy as pie. The hardest part is cleaning the junk out of your glove box.
Clean out the glove box, remove the glove box by popping out the little plastic string on the left, and there's a latch on the right side, then tilt it down and out. behind that is the heater core. remove about 6 or 8 bolts w/ a 1/4 drive socket and a 6" extension,Remove the cover,
Clamp off the two hoses, and remove them, (Under the hood,)
Pull it out. Installation is the reverse of removal. Took me about 20 minutes, taking my time and goofing off.

Re: Heater Core.....

By the way, Autozone carries the heater core, anywhere from 18 to 24 bucks.

Re: Heater Core.....

stay away from the low cost over seas units sold at most discaount stores. sure they are easy to re-replace, but it really isnt worth it. a good Modine from Napa will run you around 30.00. this unit will likely last till the cavatation kicks in...

Re: Heater Core.....

The cheap aftermarket cores are just that. My original core let go so I installed 2 Autozone cores about 1 year apart before buying the 4th core from Ford. No more problems and many-o-miles traveled too.

Re: Heater Core.....

Before panicking check the two hoses see if one is leaking past the clamp and coolant is running into the heater box. It will accumulate on the top of the heater core then dribble down behind the carpet.
