High volts when running @2000RPM

I've been trying to figure out why my dash volt meter keeps redlining at 18v @2000RPM+ .

I've changed the voltage regulator 3 times(unplugged batteries) . Still same thing . What else can I check? My alternator seems fine .

Re: High volts when running @2000RPM

Have you checked this with a hand-held meter, just to verify that the dash meter is OK?

I had the same problem and it was the meter in the dash that was bad.
Sometimes you can find a good one in a salvage yard. The price quoted me from the local dealer was about $180.00 with my discount.

Re: High volts when running @2000RPM

As Joe suggested, get a digital volt/ohm meter and take your readings with that. If it was overcharging that badly, you would more than likely smell the batteries cooking. Tim

Re: High volts when running @2000RPM

Mine is the opposite.. cant get the dash meter to read more than about 13 volts.. but with a hanheld voltmeter measured at the batteries i get what i'm supposed to, 14,2 volts...
