How much HP can one of these motors be pushed to.

Just curious with a turbo, modified injection pump injectors and such how much power can one of these trucks make. I kinda want one to just tinker with. Just curious of what a fully modded truck is capable of. I might buy one just for that reason. So what can they do.

Safely these motors can push 325 hp at the flywheel. Now if you use studs in the heads, propane, water-methonel injection and nitrous you will have about 450 or maybe a little more at the rear wheels but... Its not a grocery getter any more. Add an intercooler and boost it up to about 19 lbs and you get more but again its not something to just tool around town in. If you raise the boost you need to drop the compression ratio down from 21 1/2 to 1 to about 18 to 1. Otherwise the heads probably will lift. Copper head gaskets and o-ringed heads and block are a good idea but the heat cycles will cause them to leak over time.

Re: How much HP can one of these motors be pushed to.

Yeah I forgot that IDI motors have such high compression. I just think that it would be fun to tinker with and I think that they sound cool. I also think that it would be kinda funny to suprise a few chiped newer trucks with it. That and I think that they look cool. I have my 7.3 psd to go fast with and pull a sled my 6.0 psd to drive daily and now I want a 7.3 IDI to play with. My buddy had one that was straight piped and it sounded good do they still sound good with a turbo.

A turboed straight piped IDI sounds great. Then you really start pulling a load up a grade and it really starts barking. Neato..

What is the recipe to get past 300? Turbo (ATS or Banks?), and new injectors and pump (who sells good stuff?)?

Re: How much HP can one of these motors be pushed to.

When I get mine I am going to mod the injectors myself, maby give the pump a try to. I have been inside a few of the DB2 pumps and I feel confident that I may be able to get some more out of it. Im gona do the turbo myself. gonna drop the compresson and stud it. I want to do everything myself and see what I can get out of it before she goes pop. Just want a tinker toy. But what is the combo that will net 325. I heard that back in the day hypermax was able to push those trucks pretty good.
